NSW Ageing and Disability Services Minister Andrew Constance announced that photo ID cards are now free to NSW seniors and their carers.
The card is only available to eligible people who don’t have a drivers licence.
"We have delivered on another important election commitment for the State's seniors," Mr Constance said.
"I hope this saving will ease the cost of living burden on the State's seniors and carers - they sure deserve it." The card previously cost $48 for five years.
Mr Constance added that in extending the card to carers, it recognised the important role they play in our community, and went beyond any commitment made at the election.
Ian Day, Chief executive officer of Council on the Ageing NSW, welcomed the announcement.
"Any measure that helps older people continue to play an active role in their communities is to be applauded," he said.
