The new community will be the first of its kind for Anglicare where street-facing shops, Anglicare welfare services, and other facilities will be available to both the residents and the public.
The development will feature 160 retirement living units and a 90-room residential aged care home on a site close to Rooty Hill train station for easy access to shops, services and others parts of Sydney.
“The level site; stairless access to shops and services; and numerous walking paths will support the health, well-being and lifestyle of our residents,” Anglicare CEO Grant Millard adds.
More than 50,000 people in the Blacktown region are now over the age of 60 – a jump of almost 10,000 people in this age group between 2011 and 2016.
“Older people in the LGA have very few options when it comes to retirement villages or supported independent living accommodation, which allow them to age in place and live within the community for as long as possible,” says Grant Millard.
There is only one retirement village located within the greater Rooty Hill and Mount Druitt areas.
The independent retirement units will be available for lease, with a significant number also reserved for affordable rentals and linked to the age pension rate.
