Chief Executive Officer Nick Ryan says AACQA will start to include the first-hand experiences of residents in its nursing home accreditation reports from 2017.
In a statement to the ABC last week, he said “At the moment, whilst we gather information, we don't group it in a way that provides the top ten outcomes, so that's what we're going to be doing."
"What consumers want to know is, not just if it's good care; they want to know what it's really like to live there and will I get my medications on time?”
The Agency currently interviews 10 per cent of residents or their families when they conduct reaccreditation audits every three years. This information is then used as part of the facility’s overall assessment.
The new project will see this feedback structured using a “validated interview tool” to allow the findings to be included as part of the public audit report.
“This will give aged care service providers greater insights into the outcomes of care for consumers and provide information from a trusted source for consumers about the quality of care,” Mr Ryan said.
