The Corowa Court aged-care facility will be expanded to cater to the increased ageing population on the Mornington Peninsula.
Run by not-for-profit group Benetas, the 60 bed aged care facility on the Esplanade in Mornington will be doubled to 120 in a $13.5 million expansion.
Mornington Peninsula Shire councillors approved the plans last year however objections were raised with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
VCAT found local impact would be minimal and upheld the Council’s decision.
"We see this as a real positive for the local community in Mornington. We pride ourselves in providing aged care services to older Victorians," said Bentas GM Chris Karagiannis (pictured).
"The expansion will enable us to continue to provide high and low care as well as dementia specific care, following the ageing in place philosophy."
Benetas will be hiring an additional thirty staff to cover shifts at the expanded centre which is expected to be open early 2015.
