Changes to aged care legislation passed into law yesterday will give substantially increased choice and control to older people over the home care services they receive.
From February next year, if you are assessed as eligible for a government funded home care package, that funding will be allocated to you as an individual, rather than to the service provider, which is the current arrangement.
In effect, it means you can take your funding package and ‘go shopping’ for the service provider of your choice. And if you find you’re not happy with that service provider or you need to move to a new location, you can take your funding allocation with you and give it to a new service provider.
