The Club plans to lease 1.9% of its 128-hectare site, 7km west of the Brisbane CBD, to the boutique village operator Aura Holdings for 60 years, with a 60-year option to build the village.
Designed by Cox Architecture, the 215 units would be constructed over two stages across four buildings four to five storeys high and would involve only a minor re-routing of the existing course. The plans have been endorsed by 96% of the club’s members.
According to The Courier-Mail, the Club’s management has engaged with the local community having mailed out 28,000 flyers to residents and holding a series of community meetings last year with more community consultation planned.
The development does have another factor in its favour too. The site falls outside of Brisbane City Council’s plan to scrap plans for villages and aged care on sports land.
