RetireAustralia has recently received development approval for their Tarragindi retirement village and bowls club development late this January, following 18 months of dedicated planning for a retirement village precinct that caters to the wider community.
As initial community response to the project were mixed, Alison Quinn, CEO of RetireAustralia, said that the project team had worked hard over the past 18 months to fully address the community’s concerns.
“We have made significant revisions to the overall design of this seniors living community in response to community feedback,” Alison said.
“The approved design has seen a significant reduction in height and scale from the initial submission together with improved and more accessible community amenities.”
Revised designs include 94 seniors living apartments with supporting facilities with an adjoining ten rink bowling greens, an architecturally designed clubhouse, and extensive parklands with a playground specifically to welcome integration for the wider Tarragindi community.
“We believe the Tarragindi Bowls Clubhouse and parkland will become a popular venue for local families to relax, a place where inter-generations of the Tarragindi community will congregate and enjoy. Creating a great place to age was the number one key driver for RetireAustralia in this project.”
Nathan Young, General Manager of Yeronga Services and Community Club (YSCC), stated that in 2008, the club initially looked to be going under due to declining memberships and engagement in bowls, an occurrence which many other clubs face. With this in mind, it was clear the long-term viability of the club after ten years would remain tenuous without significant intervention.
“While there were a range of options YSCC could have considered for the site, the partnership with RetireAustralia delivered a genuine community outcome, through its ability to preserve the bowls club for the future,” he said.
“By co-locating the club with a RetireAustralia retirement living community the Tarragindi Bowls Club stands a much stronger chance of surviving for the long term.”
Locals will have the chance to secure a seniors living apartment off the plan from mid-2018, and local residents who have already expressed interest will be kept informed when apartments become available.
Construction will take 16 to 18 months with the view to the first resident being welcomed in early 2020.
RetireAustralia is now progressing detailed designs with plans for construction to commence mid to late 2018, and is committed to keeping locals informed as the development progresses.
