Gold Coast City Council have voted in support of the project which will deliver quality, contemporary housing for Miami and Burleigh seniors whilst providing financial security for the club.
According to RetireAustralia’s CEO, Alison Quinn, the development approval demonstrated that the local council recognises the importance of innovative solutions and quality accommodation to address the changing needs of the local ageing population and allowing seniors to retire in the community that they know and love.
Alison said that critical for the project’s success was securing support by more than 90 percent of the golf club members, with this support translating into early enquiry levels from members and neighbours. The site and design of the retirement village will minimise the impact on surrounding properties and councillors told the Gold Coast Bulletin they liked the development because it had no impact on the course itself.
Conditions for approval include reducing the size of the building closest to home from six storeys to four; a second building from six storeys to five; and the remaining building to stay at six but preserve views for local residents.
The project will include 145 apartments, 32 purpose-built care suites and a wellness centre for residents and club members and includes design features that will meet gold accreditation standards in seniors’ design from the University of Stirling in Scotland.
There are currently more than 9,500 people aged over 65 living within five kilometres of Burleigh Golf Club and fewer than 500 retirement dwellings.
