Abbott commits to less regulation in aged care. A leaked Coalition document is reported to outline a possible total rewrite of the Aged Care Act.
The document is said to renounce the 2010 commitment to negotiate a four year agreement with the sector – which it says would perhaps be easier than re-engineering the existing act. However it includes a 20 point plan to cut the administrative red tape of aged care service provision.
Meanwhile Concetta Fierranti-Wells is said to be under a cloud by association with Jaymes Diaz who famously failed in his six point video to ‘stop the boats’, plus Bronwyn Bishop is believed to want all of Mental Health under her control. WA senator Michaelia Cash (pictured) is expected to take Ageing. The sector has grown to respect Fierranti-Wells for her passion and time in the portfolio.
It may be ‘back to the future’. Under Howard the Coalition had nine Aged Care ministers in 11 years, the last being Christopher Pyne – for six months.
