In what’s believed to be a South Australian industry first, retirement living operator Stockland has completed construction on a brand new $60,000 dog park at Lightsview retirement village.
Approximately one in six residents at Lightsview own a dog with the village currently home to around 20 of man’s best friends.
According to Stockland SA Regional Development Manager David Allington, village manager Christian MacIntosh recognised the need for residents to have a safe and social area to let their dogs off the leash. Located in the village’s south west, the park features a grassed area, bench seats under existing mature trees, and hedging for privacy.
Mr Allington said that Stockland is committed to helping older South Australians live healthy, fulfilling and independent lives and encourages its Lightsview residents to have pets because of the many health and longevity benefits associated with owning a companion animal.
He adds that they expect the dog park will also help attract new residents to the village as they will be able to move in without worrying about giving up their pets.
Lightsview Retirement Village is one of Stockland’s 11 villages across Adelaide.
