The Yeronga Bowls Club, 7km south of the Brisbane CBD, had put forward an application in May 2016 to sell one of its greens to the Lennium Group for a 50-unit residential development.
However, Brisbane City Council rejected the plan last month after receiving over 30 community submissions on the project.
Lennium developer Andrew Boyd now intends to build a retirement village on the same site under the Council’s recently amended City Plan 2014, potentially allowing a larger, five-storey development.
It’s the Bowls Club’s last chance to save the club from closing its doors.
Postscript: In discussion with RLC President and RetireAustralia CEO, Alison Quinn, she clarified the Brisbane City Council only supports development on private land. Clubs that have been gifted land don’t comply.
