The well-known property developer will take the lead on 125 retirement village homes planned for the Federal Golf Club at Red Hill in Canberra.
The project – which also features a new clubhouse, swimming pool and gym – was first put forward in 2015 when the Club signed a partnership with Mbark, but now the development is finally moving forward with a new panel meeting recently to discuss its future according to The Canberra Times.
The panel included the club, developer Mbark, the National Capital Authority, the ACT Government architect, heritage representatives, the Conservation Council of the ACT, the Friends of Grasslands, the Red Hill Regenerators, three local residents groups, the Inner South Canberra Community Council, the Council on the Ageing and the Canberra Business Chamber.
It’s good news for the Club which is keen to get the village up and running. They estimate the new homes and planned upgrades to the golf course would raise around $18 million for the Club and ensure its long-term viability.
While Mbark says the consultation process is still in the early stages, they hope to canvas community feedback later this year before filing a development application with the ACT Government.
If Mbark’s previous developments are anything to go by though, the new village is sure to be a winner.
Their Wivenhoe village at Cobbitty in NSW was nominated for Best Retirement Living Development at this year’s Property Council of Australia Innovation & Excellence Awards.
