The not-for-profit Lakelands Country Club has received approval to build the village on 10 hectares in Gnangara, 30km north of Perth, after an eight-month fight over the development application.
The village is being developed by new village entrant, the Perth-based Handle Property Group, and will include 208 homes and 82 apartments.
The City of Wanneroo and WA Planning Commission (WAPC) had recommended refusing the development, claiming that the urban design of the village was incompatible with the area’s rural zoning and State planning policies, and it was premature as the area was only classified as potential urban.
A Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS) amendment to rezone the area from rural to urban deferred is currently being considered by the WA Planning Minister.
Village residents will be also provided with one full and one junior golf membership for grandchildren, plus full social club membership, while discounts on the purchase price of homes will be available to club members.
