The Gold Coast Just Better Care community has begun an initiative that aims to celebrate all possible achievements for the elderly and those living with a disability, when given the appropriate amount of support.
Though the program is championed by an Australia-wide aged care provider, the idea nurtured by Just Better Care has the potential to be replicated in retirement villages to advocate the same positive statements about lifestyles in older age.
The program, titled ‘A Year of Possibilities’, requires stories from individuals who are facing challenging circumstances, and are looking for the opportunity to increase their independence.
Just Better Care Gold Coast owner Bram Baker said the initiative aimed to unearth the positive stories, and educate the public, on how lives can be changed with just a little extra support.
“We want to know how having the right support would improve your life, or the life of someone close to you, so that we can make it a reality,” he said.
The program includes a competition component, where two prizes will be awarded valued at a combined total of more than $27,000, including one package for aged care and one for a person living with a disability. Each winner would receive one year’s worth of in-home support for up to five hours per week.
“So much is possible when you have the right support, and we want you to tell us what would be possible for you if you had a whole year of free aged care or disability support in your own home,” Mr Baker said.
