Canberra’s Goodwin House Ainslee celebrated a significant milestone on 16th May with the 10th anniversary celebration of the redevelopment of Goodwin Village. Established in 1961, Goodwin House was the first aged care facility in Canberra, and Canberra’s first seniors’ specific independent housing. The celebration included ACT Ministers and MLAs, distinguished guests and Goodwin residents and staff.
In 2008 Ainslie underwent a major redevelopment updating village accommodation and upgrading the care facility to support the latest in care technologies, equipment and philosophies.
The project won more than 10 awards including from the Master Builders Association and Property Council.
According to Goodwin chief executive Sue Levy it was important to acknowledge and honour the vision of Goodwin’s early initiators in leading the development for seniors housing in Canberra and also acknowledging those residents and staff who have been here since the beginning of the ten year journey.
Today, close to 300 seniors live in the Ainslie independent living village and around 110 in Goodwin House, the residential aged care facility.
