Pat Sparrow, CEO of Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) has raised concerns over the introduction of Portable Long Service Leave in aged care and community services in Victoria, after the State Government stated it would accept the recommendations of a Parliamentary Committee on the issue.

She says that portability runs counter to the aim of long service leave to encourage employees to stay with their employer. “Long service leave … support the maintenance of … long-term employment arrangements.”

“While we understand the concerns of our workforce, ACSA is concerned that portability will see costs, such as replacement costs, to employers increase as well as a rise in the administrative burden.”
