Derek McMillan’s retirement arm of Australian Unity is seeking out government land releases in Sydney to build integrated vertical retirement villages and aged care along the model of their Melbourne Rathdown Place development.
AU states they do not wish to compete with residential developers for land, preferring to tender for government land releases in inner and middle metro areas. An example would be surplus university or hospital land.
The concentration on NSW follows AU’s tender purchase of the NSW government’s home care service for $114M which delivered 5,000 staff. They want to balance this carer ratio with retirement villages.
