Mount Gambier businessman Barry Maney was among those recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours for his service to the community with a Medal of the Order of Australia.

Mr Maney is an energetic supporter of aged care facility Boandik Lodge and, among other accomplishments, is also the the founder of Regional Foodbank Mount Gambier.

Not only was he honoured to receive the award, Mr Maney felt personally humbled.

"I'm aware that there are thousands of caring Australians doing amazing work in their communities every day," he said.

"I'm a great believer in getting involved yourself and I like to use my skills and contacts to help the various organisations achieve their goals and I can highly encourage everyone to try and find a cause that appeals to them because contributing back to your local community is great therapy for the heart and soul."
