Bethanie Dalyellup Social Housing have a special group of women who been meeting every Monday afternoon for around four years, to make soft toys and various other items for Dot’s Place (Cancer Foundation), Bunbury Regional Hospital and SJOG Hospital.

Each month the craft group produces shawls, turbans, scarves, infant and adult beanies and knitted crocheted rugs and much more which are given to the Community Carers at the local hospitals to distribute to the surgical, maternity and the children’s wards.

Gift boxes of matinee jackets, booties and baby beanies made by the women for single new mothers are also put together by the Community carers.

One special contribution from the craft group is their little hand knitted mice for which they have received dozens of thank you cards from the hospital from grateful recipients.

St John of God Hospital made a specific request for a smaller mouse, something so small it could be placed in the pocket of the operations gown of a child to help put them at ease before an anaesthetic.

“What these residents are doing each month is inspiring” says Bethanie Dalyellup Tenancy Manager, Marie Friend adding that this special group of ladies are doing an amazing job for their local hospitals, local community and those who are in need.

Located in Western Australia’s South West region Bethanie Dalyellup offers 104 one and two-bedroom quality apartment housing that’s affordable, well-appointed and close to nearby shops and services for ease and convenience of daily life.
