Residents and business owners packed the Narooma Country Women’s Association to discuss development plans for the Narooma retirement village.

The proposal involves closing access to a public car park which has been met with universal opposition.

Village spokesperson David Smith outlined plans for the retirement village which include public parking underground for 42 cars.

Business owners believe any changes will mean commercial death. Narooma Kinema owner John Griffiths said the change would jeopardise his business which had been there since 1926.

“The car parking issue needs to be resolved,” he said.

Council agreed, urging those present to ‘think outside the square.
