Not-for-profit retirement village organisation Goodwin has recently begun redevelopment on the Good Farrer Village in the heart of Canberra. The update will create rare new housing options for downsizers in the older suburb and fill a gap for housing and care for seniors.
Designed by award winning AMC Architecture and constructed by PBS Builders, the new developments will offer 150 modern independent living apartments designed especially for seniors.
The village will also feature a clubhouse as the central hub and social heart, along with a public café, hairdresser and health and wellness services as well as activity spaces. These inclusions to the redevelopment will be complemented by landscaped gardens (including vegetable gardens for residents to tend) which will create a gorgeous landscape visible from apartments and rooms.
“We are really proud to be filling a need in the community with such a modern and elegant complex”, says Sue Levy, Goodwin Chief Executive Officer.
“It has always been our desire to work with our community on a village that encourages positive ageing.”
Seniors will be the drivers of population growth in coming years in the Woden Valley and across the ACT. It is anticipated there will be 22,500 people in the ACT who are 85 years old and over, within 40 years.
“I believe the Farrer development will continue Goodwin’s status as designers of award winning villages”, says Sue.
