The original plans for an expansion of Bathurst’s Cheriton Retirement Village involved removing a residence in the city’s Heritage Conservation Area.

Concerns about the demolition of 209 Piper Street, a move that would have a significant impact on the streetscape and conservation area in general, resulted in Bathurst Regional Council requesting Chertion rethink its plans.

For their part, the company has gone out of their way to save 209 Piper Street and produced a new plan that will go a long way toward keeping all parties happy.

The result is a good example of how operators, developers and authority’s can work toward a positive outcome.
