Churches of Christ announces plans for new seniors’ community in regional Queensland

The Not For Profit has announced it will invest $38 million in developing a master-planned campus at its Fassifern site at Boonah, 88km south-west of Brisbane.

The Churches of Christ Campus Boonah will include a new aged care service, an expanded retirement village and a man-made lake.

The first stage of the development will be a 96-suite aged care home over one- and two-storey buildings. Once complete, the existing aged care building will be demolished and the surrounding area landscaped. Home care and support services will also be offered from the site.

Adjoining this building will be a community hub available to both residents and local community groups plus a café, community centre and social meeting spaces.

A new lake is also being built by shifting an existing overflow dam to the lower end of the property to create water views for the campus.

Later stages of the development will include 38 additional retirement living units, designed to complement those in the existing Fassifern retirement village and bring the village to a total of 85 units.

Acting Chief Executive Officer David Swain says the Scenic Rim and Boonah in particular are key areas for Churches of Christ Queensland to deliver seniors’ care.

“We are planning a seniors living community tailor-made for local seniors that will enable them to age in place with no need to move from their community if their care needs change,” he said.

The 133-year-old organisation has a strong commitment to rural and regional communities and is currently expanding its seniors care services in nearby Stanthorpe and Warwick as well as building a new integrated campus on the Sunshine Coast.

“The services we deliver, and the campuses we operate from, are evolving to meet those needs,” Mr Swain said.

“We also provide for those living in their own homes, with the enhanced delivery of home and community care a consideration of any of our development projects.”

When approved, the first stage will begin construction later this year, with the second stage to start in mid-2018.

There will also be an opportunity for the campus to expand in future stages depending on demand. These will incorporate extra senior living options including a manufactured home estate.

Churches of Christ Care is one of Australia’s largest Not For Profit providers, operating 28 residential aged care services and 23 retirement villages across Queensland and Victoria.
