Fact is stranger than fiction. This is a story of true optimism.

Last June two males aged 25 and 33 optimistically thought residents of retirement villages must have plenty of cash sitting about. They attempted to break into several Farrington Retirement Village homes at Nambucca (northern NSW coast).

Optimistically they thought they had got away with it when police arrived too late.

Again, optimistically, they thought they could overtake a police car and not get pulled over. Unfortunately it was the police car that had just left the retirement village. They were caught hiding a loaded 12 gauge shot gun, syringes and balaclava under the seats. Last week there were sentenced to 20 months jail with a non-parole period of nine months.
