Constructive works due at Quambie Park retirement village can now commence after confirmation of funding from the Western Australian State Government was announced in late August.

Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced $1.8million for the Waroona village during her visit to the facility on the 18th of August. The sum stands for an addition of nearly $1.7 million to the latest round of the Building Better Regions Fund from the Federal Government.

The much anticipated extension will include nine independent living units, and a community hub building for residents. The village currently has 45 residents in its facility, with 38 independent living units, all while providing home care for 33 people in Waroona and outlying areas.

Ms. MacTiernan said the Federal contribution to the project helped the State Government decide on contributing to the overall project, adding that there was going to be a bigger focus on economic development projects to be approved for funding.

“Given that there will be a significant Commonwealth contribution, and it’s a good project in itself, that makes this something that has got it into the ‘yes we will do this one’ basket.”

Quambie Park board chairman Mike Walmsley said the announcement was great news due to uncertainty surrounding the State funding after the Federal funding was approved.

“The whole project was teetering, so we needed to know if it was going to happen,” he said.

“Now this is fully-funded, we’re ready to roll on this,” he said.
