Alex McMahon of Seachange Village in Arundel is riding a wave of interest as boomers plan for the next stage of life.

“The demand for over 50’s living communities has accelerated over the past few years and we are riding a new wave of baby boomer interest in the market,” Mr McMahon says.

He believes the Gold Coast is holding its title as the destination of choice for Australian retirees with demand outstripping supply.

“The take up has been phenomenal and as quick as we build new homes we are selling them.

This is in line with earlier reports by villages.com.au about an uplift in sales over the Christmas / New Year period.

“Of the 150 homes we have sold to date almost one third have been to people from either Brisbane or interstate, confirming the Gold Coast is still the destination of choice for retirees.”

Mr McMahon also confirms findings from the McCrindle Baynes 2011 retirement village census that community and security are significant factors when buying.

“All homes in Seachange are owner-occupied, so everyone knows their neighbours, which is important to retirees and adds another dimension to security.

“Buyers from the ACT and Melbourne are not only enticed by the climate we’re famous for, but also the range of activities and nearby services,” Mr McMahon says.
