It’s a small story but a good story.

Baptcare has created a concept it calls House of Hope and Sanctuary. It provides housing or people seeking asylam. Its fourth property is in Footscray and has been leased to the Not For Profit provider for two years at 35% of the market rent by an anonymous couple.

The two-bedroom unit is already home to two young women seeking asylum who are being supported by the Red Cross.

The program currently cares for 84 adults and five children who are seeking asylum and have been homeless, and is urgently looking for more properties to lease at no rent or at a reduced rate, particularly in the Ashburton, Glen Iris, Warrandyte, Preston, Coburg and Brunswick areas.

If you know any church community or person who might be interested in supporting the project, please contact Project’s Coordinator Leonie Walker on (03) 8480 9004 or email here.
