Eight residents of Bli Bli’s Halcyon Landing retirement village have united in an effort to knit 50 beanies for Australian soldiers on foreign deployment, in the lead up to the northern winter. Their contribution is part of an initiative organised by the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL), in which hundreds of handmade items will be sent to troops in the Middle East.

The community’s team meet once a week to knit the beanies, and to date, they have produced a quarter of the 50 beanies they plan to create and ship abroad.

Halcyon Landing Community Manager Donna Osborne said she was thrilled with the willingness of so many home owners to lend a helping hand, and said the gesture demonstrates the supportive spirit at Halcyon Landing.

“As a group, I think it’s fantastic for the Halcyon community to come together to support a great cause. It’s also a great opportunity for homeowners to catch up and have fun while doing so,” Mrs Osborne said.

“Sending a beanie to Australian troops provides more than warmth for those serving in the Middle East winter; it represents our support, appreciation and recognition from home,” she said.
