LIFESTYLE community Halcyon Waters in Hope Island is one of a few Gold Coast locations to be chosen as a backdrop in the upcoming drama television series, The End.
The 10-episode series is being produced by Foxtel and Sky UK by the Academy-Award winning producer See-Saw Films who are best known for their work on six-time Academy Award-nominated Lion, The King’s Speech and multi-award winning Top of the Lake.
The series tells the story of an Australian-based doctor who brings her estranged mother out from England to live in a lifestyle community and follows their journey towards rebuilding their relationship.
The cast includes Frances O’Connor, Dame Harriet Walter, Noni Hazlehurst, Robyn Nevin, John Waters, Alex Dimitriades, Luke Arnold and Roy Billing.
Filming began at Halcyon Waters last month, involving several shoots inside two homes, the pool and Leisure Club, the library, Lakehouse, Celebration Park and the Secret Garden.
Halcyon Waters home owners Paula and Rod Clegg said they happily moved out of their home for six days to allow it to become a film set and many residents jumped at the opportunity to sign up as extras with resident Hary Pirvics being promoted to the cast.
Halcyon joint managing director Dr Bevan Geissmann said Halcyon welcomed See-Saw Films with open arms. “Our home owners are really enjoying getting involved, we’ve got a handful of movie stars in our midst,” Dr Geissmann said.
See-Saw Film’s Rachel Gardner, The End’s executive producer, said “The Gold Coast really is a lead character in our series and we couldn’t be more delighted to be filming there with the incredible support of Screen Queensland.”
The production company will inject $8 million into Queensland Production Expenditure and engage local suppliers, businesses and facilities with the series employing 100 Queensland crew.
