The 7.5 hectare development known as the Health and Wellbeing Precinct at the University’s Innovation Campus will feature 199 independent retirement units, a 108-bed aged care facility, childcare centre and retail shops.
Stage one will also include a primary and community health clinic modelled on the US Mayo Clinics offering a range of services including aged care, respite care, rehabilitation services and mental health services.
According to University of Wollongong vice-chancellor Paul Wellings, Lendlease provided “the most comprehensive development concept and vision” for the precinct following a national open-market Expression of Interest process that began in November 2016.
Lendlease – our largest village operator with over 12,500 units across 71 villages nationally – plan to partner with a local aged care provider for the development.
The University of Wollongong expects construction to start in 2020 with the first facilities to open by 2022.
