Called Camden Central Lifestyle Estate the John Street development will include a mix of independent living, higher-care facilities and a resident bar and café.

Michael Rabey, the chief operating officer of developers AEH Group, confirmed that works are under way and they expect their first residents to move in during the second half of the year.

Remediation of the John St site has now been completed and according to Mr Raby AEH has met all the requirements under the site’s Remedial Action Plan and the auditor sign-off. Adding that they appreciated the involvement of community members and the local schools and parent groups, in the project to date.

The long suggested class action against the Education Department, alleging former staff and students suffered illness due to the contaminants on the site, remains on standby.

The first two buildings are expected to be completed by the end of the year with the first 54 apartments already sold.
