RetireAustralia’s Murray Gardens Retirement Village last week made a small achievement for a bigger purpose; raising $520 for the Heart Foundation through a charitable afternoon tea.

Residents, their families and friends attended the day at the village’s community centre, where an abundance of homemade baked treats were served all whilst guests generously gave to the charity in focus.

Murray Gardens Co-Village Manager Chiquita Walsh said the fundraising efforts were a typical characteristic of the residents, and that it reflects greatly on the village’s community spirit.

“Staff and residents worked together wonderfully to put on the event, and we are very proud of their fantastic efforts,” Ms Walsh said. “They are such a generous group.”

Their generosity has previously shone through in other initiatives, such as in June, when residents raised $2300 for the Albury-Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre, and then again recently after participating in a fundraising event for R U OK? Day.

Murray Gardens resident Peter Ainsworth is a huge champion for the Heart Foundation, having been collecting for the charity for over three years.

“What they can do with medical equipment these days is incredible, and a lot of it is achieved by people giving money,” Peter said.

The Heart Foundation’s Big Heart Appeal ran through September, with fundraisers across the country collecting for lifesaving heart research, education and ongoing support.
