Residents at Murray Gardens Retirement Village in East Albury have raised their biggest amount yet for the Albury-Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre at their annual Christmas market held on the weekend.

The event attracted a crowd of several hundred and raised $4,200, topping the $2,300 total achieved at the village’s gala day in June.

Stallholders from the village and wider community sold a range of festive items, while a band from the Murray Conservatorium provided the entertainment.

“The craft group contributed everything from paintings, Christmas hampers and knitted Santas to the raffle,” Co-Village Manager Chiquita Walsh said.

“The village looked wonderful and so many people enjoyed the market.”

All of the money raised will go towards new equipment for the Albury-Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre which supports a catchment population of 250,000.

“People in the village and wider area have been really generous,” resident Marion Underhill said.

“It’s a wonderful community.”
