Glengowrie Retirement Village resident Arthur Walker will celebrate his 100th birthday on 5th June, marking the milestone at a morning tea with family and friends at the village’s community centre.
Born in Hindmarsh, the eldest of four boys, Arthur grew up in Bowden and North Adelaide, and was a keen sportsman in his youth, playing on the wing for West Torrens.
Working as a machinist at Islington Railway Workshops for 45 years earned Arthur and his wife Muriel the opportunity to travel Australia by first class rail during his three months long service leave. An experience he describes as “marvellous”!
Arthur was one of the first residents to move to Glengowrie Retirement Village in 1995 where he has made many good friends.
What are Arthur’s three tips for enjoying a long life?
He walks every day, he’s never been a worrier and he has had good relationships with women (whose conversations he finds more interesting than men’s!).
Glengowrie Retirement Village offers relaxed and secure retirement living options in peaceful surroundings just minutes from the beach.
