The South Australian not-for-profit operator says that over the next decade, the number of over-65’s living in Adelaide will rise from around 215,000 to more than 274,000.
There’ll also be over 51,000 more people aged over 70 living in Adelaide – taking that total to 200,818 or 30% more than today.
Foreseeing this demand, Life Care is preparing for the future
“We know we have a shortage in accommodation for aging people in Adelaide,” Lifecare CEO Allen Candy said.
“The next question is…What kind of care do these people and their families want? Our research is telling us that families want to remain together, not isolated, and that we need to consider the whole family unit, not just the person.”
As a result, Life Care has filed a development application for three state-of-the art village and aged care campuses at Norwood, Glen Osmond and Joslin.
“Our developments will include an integrated combination of living styles, so people can move from one to the next depending on the level of care required. Independent living units, serviced apartments and full nursing care will be incorporated in the developments,” Mr Candy said.
The operator now plans to consult with local communities to get their input on the proposed developments.
“We want Adelaide to be very proud of how it prepares and provides for its ageing population; and Life Care wants to deliver the very best result in innovation and design – and we believe our developments will achieve this objective,” Mr Candy added.
