Two residents were killed; one aged 88 died at the scene and a 91-year-old woman passed away the next day. All the other passengers had injuries from bruises to broken bones.

Five passengers were residents plus one staff member and one volunteer from The Village Glen. The residents were from the secure dementia unit and were taking a drive to the beach as part of their weekly outing.

The impact on both residents and staff is reported to have been profound and Chas Jacobsen, the owner of The Village Glen, immediately engaged counsellors for residents and staff who were directly or indirectly affected, which number in their hundreds.
