The proposed development in Taringa, 5km from the CBD, would offer residents three levels of care – retirement living, assisted living and aged care – across three multi-storey buildings.

Designed by Deicke Richards Architects, the first building would feature 98 Independent Living Units, all with ensuites, walk-in-robes, bathrooms, open planned living areas and generously sized balconies.

A second building would include 53 assisted living units providing in-home care, meals, laundry and cleaning services, plus a communal dining area, lounge area, library and terrace. A 225-bed aged care facility would also be available on site.

TriCare says it initiated the project after its own analysis showed there were not enough retirement units and aged are beds in the local area to meet the growing demand.  

“The total number of residents aged 65 years and over is over 22,000 and projected to grow to over 30,000 by 2026,” the application reads.

If the development is given the go-ahead under the Brisbane City Council’s new retirement village and aged care incentives, it will bring the total number of units and beds approved this year to 3,563 – just short of the 3,600 Council predicts it will need every year as people retire.
