Local residents in Northern Queensland are objecting to proposed expansion of a development in Turtle Cove.

The site has been approved as a resort for many years, but plans changed to develop a retirement village instead.

Richard Wilson of River Heads as organised a petition in the local area.

"We're not opposed to the resort itself but we are concerned (about) the size of it," he said, worried that the development may impact on current residents' lifestyle.

"I've got in excess of 300 signatures that are against the increasing the size of the redevelopment of the current site.

"When we moved into the area we paid a considerable sum to be fairly close to the (proposed) golf course but also wanted a quiet place to live," he said.
