The $35 million Durack Gardens retirement village at Durack, southeast of the Darwin CBD, were formally opened last weekend by NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner.
There are two- and three-bedroom display units now open to the public well as the Community Centre, an outdoor pool, barbecue and alfresco areas.
The village has been developed by McMahon Services and GJ Gardner Homes Darwin and has been entirely constructed by local companies.
“The Durack Gardens development is providing ongoing construction jobs, and will further create more jobs for Territorians as the village becomes operational,” David Cvirn from McMahon said.
“Importantly, the project will attract retirees and enable retirees to remain in Darwin to enjoy the Top End lifestyle, be close to their families and friends, while supporting local business.”
When complete, the village will have 60 architecturally designed tropical homes with the first stage offering 16 units that will be ready in December.
