Members of the Mount Barker village’s ‘Chat and Craft’ group have reached a remarkable milestone of completing 400 knitted wraps for international charity, Wrap With Love.
The charity has provided over 400,000 wraps to people in need in over 75 countries, including Australia, since 1992.
The Laurels resident, Dorothy Heath, began knitting squares for single-bed-sized wraps in 2008. She was quickly joined by a charitable team for weekly knitting afternoons with the group having now completed over 11,200 squares which are forwarded via Wrap With Love’s Sydney headquarters to needy recipients worldwide.
Included in each wrap is a square featuring a knitted kangaroo and a label stating, ‘A gift from Wrap With Love, Australia’.
Knowing the wraps go to those in need is a very satisfying feeling according to Dorothy, particularly as for some it is the first gift they have received.
