Australian retirement village operator Bolton Clarke, formerly RSL Care + RDNS, has taken its relationship with Bowls Australia another step forward through the successful promotion and exhibition of their very first Community Health Expo at Rosebud Beach Community Bowls Club on the 13th of October. The expo called on Australians to think differently about ageing and maximise the opportunities that came with increasing longevity.
The community event, launched by Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt, hosted providers of products and services as well as partners including Alzheimer’s Australia Victoria and the Stroke Foundation, all in the effort of supporting healthy ageing lifestyles.
Information sessions specialised on topics including diabetes, skin integrity, bladder health, positive ageing & brain health, Nourishment & Nutrition, Medicines Management, CPR/First Aid & De-fibrillation, Cardiovascular Health, Physiotherapy, Home Monitoring Alarms and more.
“Events such as this provide an excellent opportunity to inform and educate the local community with important health messages regarding ageing, promote lawn bowls as a healthy friendly activity and promote Bolton Clarke’s continuum of care health services for the ageing population,” Minister Hunt said.
Bowls Australia CEO Neil Dalrymple said the expos promised to bring a new level of success to the Bolton Clarke – Bowls Australia partnership.
“Bowls Australia’s Regional Bowls Managers have coordinated many Health & Wellness sessions at bowls clubs right across the country in conjunction with Bolton Clarke, helping to spread important health messages amongst bowlers from many backgrounds,” said Mr Dalrymple.
“Our partnership with Bowls Australia, and this initiative, recognises the vital link between sport, community life and good health – both physical and mental health,” said Bolton Clarke Executive General Manager Brand and Business Development Dan Woods, in reference to the notion that bowls clubs are an ideal place to share health information with local communities.
“Since we started working with Bowls Australia two years ago, almost 9,000 people have attended a ‘Be Healthy’ session, and we know from feedback that not only have people been educated but that they are actively incorporating the knowledge into their lives.
“It has been an immensely rewarding program,” added Mr Woods.
Bolton Clarke’s Be Healthy and Active team will now work with Bowls Australia to roll out expos in bowls clubs around the country.
