After last month’s announcement of Pacific Golf Club’s plans to incorporate a new retirement village into the surrounding area of the club links, new details have emerged about the size and scale of the impending project.
The Carindale club revealed first concepts early this month of the $10 million redevelopment. Up to 180 units specifically designed for retirement living are proposed to be built on the Club grounds, in order to upgrade facilities and secure the Club’s future in the community.
The upgrade would also deliver a new clubhouse within the village, and a new driving range and establish a putt-putt on the golf club grounds.
While detailed designs have not yet been released, the units are anticipated to be two or three storeys and up to five storeys on the sloped section of the site. Plans are set to be lodged with the council in March of next year.
Pacific Golf Club President, Craig Austen, said the redevelopment would take in the 3 per cent of the total green space already developed, and that the proposal would stop the loss of land caused by asset sales over the past 20 years, and maintain the existing 18-hole and 9-hole courses for residents and club members to enjoy.
“The proposed site is all developed at the moment and part of that also is to upgrade our practice facilities to state-of-the-art,” Mr Austen said.
Mr Austen and patrons of the Pacific Golf Club believe the retirement village development promises mutual benefits for the golf club and future residents, by increasing membership and encouraging healthy ageing lifestyles in increased activity in the golfing community.
