The first over-50s retirement village that blends a golf club and a residential community, Halcyon Greens, has opened its gates to welcome the very first residents as the $250 million master planned development continues to unfold at Pimpama on the Gold Coast.
The first occupants of the 500-home gated community were driven to their new abodes in a Tesla Model S - a housewarming gesture from Halcyon to celebrate the residents’ decision to choose Tesla battery-powered dwellings at Halcyon Greens.
Barry Dempsey, a former resident in Cornubia who sold his home earlier this year, was one of the first to make the move into the new Halcyon Greens village. Before he chose buying at Halcyon Greens, he researched environment-friendly home designs with the aim of achieving a more cost-effective lifestyle.
“I came across Halcyon communities while doing my research and was extremely impressed with the design concept and the environmentally friendly features,” he said.
“Halcyon offered exactly what I was looking for all in one package plus I’ll be living on a golf course – that’s the dream.”
Fellow new residents, semi-retired couple Bill Harrison and Joy Tragardh, formerly of Rochedale in Brisbane, are equally thrilled about taking possession of their Halcyon Greens abode.
The couple are particularly looking forward to going off the grid in their Tesla-operated home in the face of increasing power prices.
“Buying a Tesla-operated home makes a lot of sense,” Mr Harrison said. “As we looked further into the cost and environmental benefits of a Tesla-powered home, it reinforced that we made the right decision and we’re very happy and excited about moving in.”
The couple are additionally impressed with the location, quality of homes, price point, and the standard of lifestyle facilities at Halcyon Greens.
“We researched over 50s communities and Halcyon’s operational experience and quality stood out,” Ms Tragardh said.
“As retirees, being able to purchase a home in a community with no exit fees really appealed to us. It was the right decision and we are so excited to move into our new home.”
Halcyon joint managing director Bevan Geissmann said the arrival of the first residents was a major milestone for Halcyon Greens, which is the developer’s seventh and largest project in South East Queensland.
“We are thrilled to welcome our first home owners to the community,” Dr Geissmann said.
“Their arrival brings the Halcyon Greens community to life and we look forward to seeing it emerge and thrive in the coming years.”
Prospective buyers can inspect the Halcyon Greens lifestyle for themselves with the opening of the display village, which opened at the time new residents made their arrival to the village.
Residents of Halcyon Greens also will have exclusive free access to Gainsborough Greens golf course and its new clubhouse, which is currently under construction. The wider recreational offering includes 2.4ha of central parkland, clubhouse and lodge with fireplaces, outdoor and heated indoor pool, championship-size bowling green, floodlit tennis court, cinema, gym, dance studio, outdoor amphitheatre, walking trails and pickleball courts.
Home owners will also have access to a work shed, herb and vegetable garden, rose garden and fruit orchard, as well as storage facilities for boats, golf buggy, caravans and CCTV security.
