Retirees who no longer wish to stay in their own homes will soon have another residential option in Murray Bridge.

Construction has begun on Warner Close village which will provide a form of housing that has not previously been available in the rural city according to Murray Mallee Aged Care Chief Executive Officer Anna Howard.

Residents will be able to rent their units at the cost of a significant proportion of their pensions, plus their Commonwealth housing assistance payments, which will help solve a problem for those retirees who struggle to pay the deposit required to move into some accommodation, even after selling their homes.

The development will consist of 50 independent living units with facilities including an on-site supervisor seven days a week 24 hours a day, meals, a heavy laundry service and social activities with the security of living in a gated community.

Mayor Brenton Lewis who attended the sod-turning ceremony along with about fifty others, described Warner Close as an exciting venture with a refreshing business model which he believes will be successful.

Prior to entering the residential market Murray Valley Aged Care has focused on delivering home-based care services to older people.
