After 18 months in planning and community consultation, the development at the Tarragindi Bowls Club, 8km south of the Brisbane CBD, has been given the green light.
According to RetireAustralia CEO Alison Quinn the NZ-owned operator made “significant revisions” to their original plan to build 95 units between three- to five-storeys on the site after a “mixed” community response to the development.
The approved design includes 94 apartments with supporting facilities, a 10-rink bowling green and a new clubhouse, plus community parklands and a playground designed for public use.
Nathan Young, General Manager of Yeronga Services and Community Club (YSCC), which bought the Bowls Club in 2008, says that while there were a range of options considered for the site, the RetireAustralia partnership was the only one that would preserve the Club for the future.
Construction on the village will now start mid- to late this year.
