Philanthropic residents of Wellington Manor Retirement Village, one of RetireAustralia’s communities in Birkdale of Queensland, raised $2150 for the outreach charity Rosies – Friends on the Street by holding a soup kitchen-style lunch and raffle in the past week.

A menu of soups inspired by the fare offered to the people Rosies – Friends on the Street aims to help was served in Wellington Manor village’s community centre to the crowd of around 80 residents who attended the day.

The Rosies – Friends on the Street charity was founded in 1975 in Victoria and began its Brisbane operation in 1989. Their continuous goal, an aim of dedicated work, is to connect with those in need, including homeless, marginalised and socially isolated members of the community.

Wellington Manor Village Manager Wendy Rogers said the fundraising effort was yet another shining example of the generosity residents regularly display.

“As always, residents worked together to raise a fantastic sum to donate to Rosies,” Wendy said.

Resident Des Williams, who does charity work for Rosies – Friends on the Street, helped coordinate the event after the charity’s committee approached him to suggest a fundraising initiative amongst his community.

“Rosies are delighted with the response and I think residents are happy to have them as their preferred charity,” Des said.
