As reported in the Source newsletter, Dr Senthil Govindasamy had lodged the application for a 75-metre 21-storey tower with 150 independent living units on a vacant block of land next to his medical practice in Mawson Lakes, 16km north of the CBD, back in 2016.

According to Dr Govindasamy the $150 million development was inspired by similar senior community developments in Singapore and Melbourne.

The development is now waiting on approval from the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) after being revised down to 35.8 metres by the Office for Design and Architecture SA.

If approved, the building will be the tallest in the northern suburbs and feature ILUs, an aged care facility, medical centre, swimming pool and retail.

Around 20 locals lodged submissions against the plans saying the building was “too tall for the area” and an “overdevelopment of the site”.

But a Council report on the project, prepared for the SCAP, has recommended it be approved. “On balance, (the building) is considered to be appropriate for the site and locality,” it stated.
