The funding will see 33 independent living units and 66 high-care beds built at the campus-style Armstrong Village in Dunsborough, at the entrance to the Margaret River 254km south of Perth, and is part of a $13.1 million package to meet the seniors’ accommodation needs in regional WA.
The town’s first retirement village, the Gordon Genat-backed Toby’s Inlet Estate has its first stage currently under construction.
According to Regional Development minister Alannah MacTiernan, the projected growth rates for people aged over 65 in regional areas is often significantly greater, than those in metropolitan areas and the provision of quality aged accommodation will enable people to continue living in their regional community whilst also supporting local jobs and businesses.
The aged care facility will be the first for Dunsborough and will cater for independent living, people with high physical needs and dementia patients.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2020.
